Started the fabrication of the tie-down assembly. Had to measure the spacers from the stock aluminum, located the centres for the holes and used my step drill. Much easier to drill the holes before cutting the stock.
The hole requires a diameter of 1 inch. The step drill worked quite well, but there sure are a lot of aluminum shavings. My band saw is not very reliable in cutting straight lines, may have to invest in a new one. Until then, I'll use the jig saw for the rough cut and bring the spacers to the exact dimensions with the scotchbrite wheel.
